Traffic violations can accumulate points toward suspensions

Driving in North Carolina is a privilege, not a right. When you have traffic violations, your license is assessed points. These points can lead to your license being suspended if you accumulate 12 points within a three-year period. It is important to understand that the points accumulate when you are convicted, not when the ticket is written. This might spur some people to fight the ticket in court when they are given one.

Violent crime defenses require intense investigation

Violent crimes carry very harsh penalties because they are crimes against people. These crimes often include very specific forms of evidence, such as DNA, that are difficult to dispute. This doesn't mean that we can't build a defense against the charges, but it does mean that we will need to look carefully into the possible strategies that can be used.

Health conditions that affect field sobriety tests

Field sobriety tests are a standard for many law enforcement agencies across the country. They are administered to drivers who are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Although there is a common belief by many motorists that these tests are fail-proof, they may in fact give false results in certain situations. Many officers of the law may not be trained or knowledgeable about the circumstances that can invalidate field sobriety tests. To prevent yourself from being detained unfairly, you should learn about the health conditions that can affect the results of your field sobriety tests.

North Carolina'a Booze It and Lose It campaign

North Carolina has a new safety campaign aimed at decreasing the number of DWIs within the state. Sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Governor's Highway Safety Program, the campaign's goal is to educate drivers on the penalties of a DWI.
