Commercials on television say that what you do while you are in a specific city will stay in that city. That is true for a lot of things; however, it isn’t true for matters that have to do with the law. Tickets, for example, can follow you around in many places. This is why some people choose to fight back when they are charged with speeding tickets.
North Carolina is one of the states that participates in the Interstate Driver’s License Compact. This means that any ticket you get in another state that is part of the IDLC will impact your driver’s license here. Even tickets in other states could lead to you getting points on your license.
There are a few states that don’t participate in the compact. Georgia, Michigan, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Massachusetts are the states that don’t participate. In all other states, the compact will come into the picture and the information will be shared.
When you pay a ticket, including a speeding ticket, you are agreeing that you are guilty. This means that unless you are willing to accept the penalties associated with that admission of guilt, you should consider fighting the ticket.
Even if you are able to deal with the points on your license because you don’t often have tickets, you have to think about other points. If you have a job that requires you to drive, the speeding ticket could mean that you can’t do that job. It could also mean that your insurance premium goes up and that you lose your license if you already have too many points.
